In October of 1964 Cecil Yother bought a 1965 Pontiac GTO. In January of 1965 he won the B Stock class at the Winternationals in that car. Later that year he was voted "Rookie of the Year" and began racing for Chrysler out of a dealership in Oakland California called Melrose Motors. In 1965 he had the best win/loss record of any funny car driver. In the second month of racing for Chrysler Cecil Yother's Melrose Missile made it's mark beating "Dyno" Don Nicholson 3 straight at Lyon's Drag Strip.
